Yesterday, Samsung presented the new Galaxy Note 9, phablet top of the range with a 6.4 “display. The device can rely on the excellent processor Snapdragon 845 Qualcomm and 6GB / 8GB RAM, but the first benchmark reveals that, in terms of performance, is superseded by iPhone X.
As communicated by Tom’s Guide, who had the opportunity to test the Galaxy Note 9 in the 6GB RAM version, iPhone X was able to surpass Samsung’s new smartphone in most of the benchmark tests. In the Geekbench 4 test, iPhone X surpassed all other devices with a score of 10357. The Galaxy Note 9 instead, “only” 8876.
Geekbench 4 measures overall performance and Note 9 provides excellent performance in multi-core benchmark tests. Note 9 got a score of 8876, which is much higher than the score of Note 8. It also exceeds the Pixel 2 XL of Google, which however uses a Snapdragon 835, just like the Note 8.
In the Slingshot Extreme test, which is one of the most reliable 3DMark, the Galaxy Note 9 is once again outdated. This time to get the best is OnePlus 6, with a score of 5124, and in second place we find iPhone X with 4994. The score for Note 9 is 4639.
The Galaxy Note 9 got a score of 4639, slightly exceeding the Galaxy S9 + (4634). However, OnePlus 6 with 8GB of RAM has far surpassed the Galaxy Note 9 with a score of 5124, and even iPhone X did better, with 4994).
The Galaxy Note 9 instead went better in the tests related to the display. The AMOLED panel of the device recorded an excellent 224% of the sRGB color gamut, so much better than iPhone X (128.6%). In addition, the Galaxy Note 9 emitted 604 nit brightness in the test, surpassing iPhone X (574 nits).
The results of the benchmarks in question do not describe the Galaxy Note 9 as a smartphone of dubious quality, indeed. The new phablet from Samsung will certainly give a hard time to the competition, relying on features that other manufacturers have not yet implemented properly (such as support for the S Pen). It is however interesting to note that iPhone X (presented in 2017) gets better results than a smartphone in mid-2018.
