South Korean technology giant Samsung has announced the launch of its second-generation 10-nanometer LPDDR4X DRAM, which will deliver high performance on premium smartphones with lower power consumption. According to the company’s statement, the new DRAM offers 10% power savings over current 16Gb LPDDR4X DRAM used in smartphones but continues to keep data rate at 4266Mbps.
Samsung said the next generation of 10 nanometer LPDDR4X DRAMs will be rolled out with smartphones to be introduced at the end of the year or early 2019. Samsung also stated that its production will expand by 70% to meet the rising demand for the DRAM, which is why it is launching a new production line at Pyeongtaek.
According to Samsung’s description, the company has combined four 10nm class 16GB LPDDR4X DRAMs to create an 8GB LPDDR4X mobile DRAM. The company, which stated that it succeeded in producing 20% thinner DRAMs on this side, stated that smartphones are becoming thinner. According to Samsung‘s description, the second-generation 10-nanometer LPDDR4X DRAM will be available in 4GB, 6GB and 8GB packages.
