Samsung Electronics’ new smartwatch goes on sale together with the upcoming Galaxy Note 9 on August 24. The wearable, called Galaxy Watch, will come in two versions in different sizes.
Is it called the Galaxy Watch or the Gear S4? Will it run Tizen or Wear OS? Can it monitor blood pressure? We take a look at the reports and rumors and address the features that might have a starring role.
Samsung already has a patent for light technology that can track blood pressure, so while we haven’t seen this feature on previous Gear watches. Advanced health-tracking is becoming more popular in the world of wearables as brands aim to provide a more holistic approach to health and fitness monitoring. Apple also has a patent for blood-pressure monitoring technology.
Another patent, filed after the name of the Galaxy Watch, shows a smart wearable. Whether this will be the Galaxy Watch is still unknown: at this stage, you would expect that the watch has long been designed. This patent could, therefore, be intended for another smartwatch. On the sketches, we see a fairly basic round watch, which is quite unreliable, although it looks pretty much like the Gear S2.
