Xiaomi‘s next Android One smartphone may be officially unveiled later this month. The company is organizing an event at the end of July where the Xiaomi Mi A2 is expected to be presented. No device is mentioned on the invitation to the Xiaomi event on 24 July.
The launch, however, takes place in Spain, which suggests that the manufacturer comes with a smartphone for the European market. That is almost certainly a successor to the Xiaomi Mi A1. Rumors about a Mi A2 are buzzing around for a while, and the original device will soon be one year old.
The Xiaomi Mi A2 is special because the device probably runs on Android One. Generally, Xiaomi makes relatively heavy adjustments to Android, with its own interface and a number of included apps. Android One, however, is an almost inadequate version of the operating system. In addition, there are relatively quick, regular (security) updates for devices with this Android variant.
Xiaomi’s smartphones are also relatively inexpensive. The Mi A1 has a large 5.5-inch screen, relatively smooth hardware, and a dual camera, but is sold for around $233. This gives the device a very competitive price-quality ratio.
Leaked Xiaomi Mi A2 specifications suggest that this is also the case with the new device. According to sources, the smartphone has a 6-inch screen, Snapdragon 660 chipset, and 4GBRAM. On the back, it features a dual camera of 12MP and 20MP, in front of a selfie camera of 20MP.
Precise details about the Xiaomi Mi A2 release date and suggested retail price will probably be announced on July 24 at the event in Spain. Then we also hear if the smartphone appears in the Netherlands, though we expect it to. The suggested retail price is probably below $350.
