News of the last hours that concerning Xiaomi. All smartphone models produced by the Chinese company that uses Android 8.0 and 8.1 Oreo in developer version, both China and global, can count on a new option to activate and deactivate the LDAC codec.
It is an audio codec developed and produced by Sony that allows playback of audio with high-resolution wireless technology integrated by default in Android starting from Oreo. What’s special about this technology? Compared to all other codecs for audio playback via Bluetooth, Sony’s high-resolution codec does not convert to reduce sound quality.
This obliges the codec to be much more efficient, transmitting about three times the data compared to any other technology dedicated to the same function. Of course, we do not find out now, as it was presented by the manufacturer at CES 2015 in Las Vegas.
Returning to the Xiaomi‘s smartphones, this codec brings significant improvements in streaming audio via Bluetooth. For example, you can enjoy better sound when listening to music, playing videos or playing video games. The improvement is felt both in the headphones and in the cashier. Before it was only available in the developer settings and disabled by default, it is now present in the general settings and can be turned on or off with a touch.
