Xiaomi Mi A1 is receiving the update to Android 8.1 Oreo with a security patch in June 2018. Finally, after a long wait even longer than expected, even the first Android smartphone of Xiaomi has the latest stable version available for Android.
The device of the Chinese producer has been successful also in the West and it is not difficult to understand why. Thanks to the membership of the Android One program, Mi A1 offers the operating system of the robot in a practically stock version, moreover, as traditionally Xiaomi, has very interesting specifications in relation to the price at which it is proposed. The device had arrived on the market with onboard Android 7.1 Nougat and had received (not without some delay on the roadmap) the update to version 8.0 Oreo. Now, after months of waiting, it updates to Android 8.1 Oreo.
The arrival of the update in question was in the air for some time, with the first beta that had been sighted towards the end of April. The leak had not been followed by official confirmations of sorts, so today the rollout started practically without warning.
The new update, which also includes the June security package, is up to 1.15GB in size. When we saw this update on our device, there was no interesting explanation about Oreo 8.1 in the description. So the update package seems to be just a security update.
But when you look at the screenshots of the update or the updated visual interface, you see a power menu from Oreo 8.1, an updated Launcher 3, a small battery indicator for Bluetooth devices, a different wallpaper and a SystemUI theme that adapts to this wallpaper. However, it is stated that the update improves the sound quality of the device.
I now come to the unpleasant surprises after the update. First, let’s say that the SMS history of the users who did the update was deleted. For this reason, if you have important SMS in your device, it is useful to back them up before updating them with a backup and restore application. Another problem with the Xiaomi Mi A1 update is that the SafetyNet service is failing.

This service, which controls the reliability of applications, may not work properly, making our device vulnerable to threats. At the moment, there is no explanation about these problems from the Xiaomi face, but a new update package may be used in the future.
