The launching of Snapdragon 710 has made up for the gap between Snapdragon 600 and 800 series. Not long ago, Xiaomi Mi 8 SE debuted with the Snapdragon 710 8ht-core processor, it can be seen as an upgraded version of the Snapdragon 660 and it can also be seen as a downgrade version of the Snapdragon 845, which also makes the Snapdragon 835 clipped in the middle. So, what are the SD 710 and SD 835? Here is the difference between the both to fully understand the relationship between the performance of these 2 Qualcomm processors.
Firstly, take a look at the differences between the CPU parameters of Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 835. We have listed the parameters of these 2 processors in a complete list, as shown in the following table.
From the comparison of specifications, it is easy to see that both processors are all using the most advanced 10nm process, and they are consistent with this year’s strongest Snapdragon 845 process, and all have the best low power consumption at present. Control, there will be no heat problem while playing games. In addition to manufacturing processes, the two CPUs are basically the same in terms of memory, storage, fast charging, and other features.
The difference between Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 835 is mainly CPU architecture, core frequency, GPU, baseband version, AI support, etc. Since the architecture, core, and clock frequency determine the CPU performance, this also makes both in terms of performance it will be different.
1, different architecture
The Snapdragon 710 can be seen as a secondary flagship processor released by Qualcomm this year. It uses the same 3rd generation Kryo architecture as the SD 845. The SD 835 is a flagship processor released by Qualcomm last year in 2017.
Generation Kryo architecture
From the architectural point of view, the Snapdragon 710 is more advanced, which is why in the previous evaluation, we will find that the same 10nm process, but the Snapdragon 710 power control is even better than the SD 835 reasons.
2, the main frequency is different
Although the SD 710 and SD 835 both are 8ht-core designs, the number of large and small cores is different from the main frequency. The Snapdragon 710 can be seen as a downgrade version of the Snapdragon 845, equipped with two A75 large cores and six A55 small cores. The Snapdragon 835 is equipped with 4 A73 large cores and four A53 small cores.
Judging from the comparison of specifications, the A75 large core and the A55 small core of Snapdragon 710 have higher specifications than Snapdragon 835’s A73 large core and A53 small core, but Snapdragon 835 has a higher frequency and a larger number of large cores. The advantage is more obvious. This also formed, on the single-core performance, Snapdragon 710 is even stronger than Snapdragon 835, only in the multi-core and integrated running points, Snapdragon 835 performed better.
3, GPU Comparison
The GPU determines the graphics performance and is the game player’s most concerned. The Snapdragon 710 is built with the Adreno 616 graphics core. It supports 4K HDR playback for the first time in high-end masters and supports HDR screens and games and videos with HDR screens. Due to hardware decoding, the power consumption of the Snapdragon 710 when rendering HDR pictures is reduced by 40% or more than that of the Snapdragon 660.
The Snapdragon 835 has a built-in Adreno 540 graphics core, which seems to be lower than the Adreno 616 in terms of name specifications. However, in the Antutu Test, we found that Adreno 54 > Adreno 616. After all, Snapdragon 835 was the flagship of 2017. Compared to 2018’s flagship, it is still not outdated, but the difference in performance is not significant.
4, Baseband Version
Snapdragon 710 supports the baseband version of LTE Cat 15, while Snapdragon 835 is LTE Cat 16. The difference between the two is extremely small. It can be said that baseband and DSP are the same levels as 710 and 835.
5, AI support
The Snapdragon 710 is an AI chip that supports artificial intelligence and can better meet the future needs of smart, such as AI camera, AI system, intelligent translation, etc, in line with the current AI trend. The Snapdragon 835 is the flagship processor released by Qualcomm in 2017. It has not yet had time to join AI support because it does not support AI. Obviously, from the perspective of AI support, Snapdragon 710 has more advantages than Snapdragon 835.
At the end of the article, the performance rankings of Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 835 in the mobile phone CPU ladder diagram are shown in the figure.
Mobile CPU ladder diagram
The above is the comparison between Qualcomm Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 835
Comparison Summary:
- Advantages of Snapdragon 710: more advanced architecture, low power consumption, single-core performance, support AI;
- Snapdragon 835 advantages: more multi-core and integrated performance, GPU slightly stronger.
In general, Snapdragon 710 and Snapdragon 835 each have their merits. On the overall performance, the Snapdragon 835 is still stronger, and the Snapdragon 710 has a comprehensive performance between Snapdragon 820 and Snapdragon 835.
