OnePlus 6
The latest iteration for OnePlus’ 6 is a polarizing piece of hardware. You might like or hate the industrial design, which includes one of those “notches,” but the specs and pricing for the OnePlus 6 aren’t to be ignored—it even has a headphone jack, which is one up over the Pixel 2. And now you can actually buy one, as sales for the phone have opened starting today. And I fall on the side of thinking a notched design can be a genuine improvement to a smartphone. Any time you maximize screen space and minimize bezels, you’re making the phone better. Eventually, you run out of bezel to remove, and the remaining front-facing components—the camera, earpiece, and sensors—need to go somewhere, which gives birth to the notch. The display itself is a 1080p OLED panel like all recent OnePlus phones. The resolution is 2280 x 1080 thanks to that fantastic 19:9 ratio. You might assume 1080p is lacking when the display is almost 6.3-inches. The OnePlus 6 is powered by Qualcomm’s best, the Snapdragon 845. This is the same chipset found in pretty much every 2018 flagship so far. You also find 8GB RAM, 256GB storage, dual-SIM support, and a 3,300mAh battery with the company’s well-known Dash fast-charging technology onboard. The OnePlus 6 also still retains the headphone jack, a welcome move for those audiophiles among us. OnePlus is sticking to a similar dual-camera formula, consisting of a 16-megapixel main sensor and a 20-megapixel secondary sensor for bokeh effects. OnePlus says it will also be adding a new Portrait Mode to the 16-megapixel front camera later, which will rely on an AI algorithm to add stars, hearts and other decorations at a matching level of focus (or blur). The latest version of the software is based on Android 8.1. While we imagine there are a few new features under the hood, the experience appears to be largely the same on the surface.
Coolpad Cool Play 6
The handset looks similar to the Coolpad Cool 1 that was also a very good handset, though there are some design changes and IR sensor is missing on Play 6. Coolpad Cool Play 6 is powerful, does not heat up and the dual cameras on the back do an impressive job. The Cool Play 6 is a well-dressed smartphone with a metal chassis wrapping around the back and side. It’s designed well and that reflects when you are holding the phone. The edges are smooth and the back panel has been given a slight curve so the smartphone would snuggle comfortably into the palm. The 5.5-inch screen has a resolution of 1,920 x 1,080p, which is impressive but not rare at this price point anymore.
It is powered by Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 653 octa-core processor with 6GB RAM. The phone packs 64GB of internal storage that can be expanded. As far as the cameras are concerned, the Coolpad Cool Play 6 packs a 13-megapixel primary camera on the rear and an 8-megapixel front shooter for selfies. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 runs Android 7.1.1 and is powered by a 4060mAh nonremovable battery. It measures 152.00 x 75.20 x 8.45 (height x width x thickness) and weighs 170.00 grams. The Coolpad Cool Play 6 is a dual SIM (GSM and GSM) smartphone that accepts Nano-SIM and Nano-SIM. Connectivity options include Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, FM, and 4G. Sensors on the phone include a Proximity sensor, Accelerometer, and Ambient light sensor.
